Pandemic Pick-Me-Ups

Regular stretching is key to maintaining a balanced body and preventing a pain cycle from forming.

Do you feel isolated from your friends and loved ones? We are witnessing unprecedented circumstances in human history that have largely impacted the way we live our lives and interact with each other--or lack of. This new normal can feel strange and isolating, and that’s okay! You are not alone. Humans are naturally social creatures, but we must now adapt and learn how to do so safely. Here are 5 easy tips you can do right now to lift your spirits! 

 

  1. Exercise! Moving your body can be a rewarding experience, as it releases endorphins--our body’s very own natural mood-boosting hormones. Try going for a walk around the block, and even grab your furry four-legged friend if you have one to join! Run, do yoga, play catch with the kids, or even dance in your living room to sweat your worries away and lift your mood.
  2. Call a friend! Although we may not be able to see our friends as often or as closely as we used to, they are still just a phone call away. Now is a great time to catch up with an old friend. Chatting for just a few minutes with an upbeat friend can do wonders for your mood. So grab your phone, and go have a good laugh!
  3. Enjoy a delicious lunch! Try out a new recipe that incorporates whole foods to feed your body the nutrition it needs and wants. 
  4. Immerse yourself in nature! Whether it’s visiting a local park, enjoying a cup of coffee on your porch, or taking a walk through your neighborhood, spending time in nature can not only put your mind at ease, but it can improve your mood too!
  5. Gratitude list! We are living in very challenging times, and this can make it really hard to focus on the positives we have in our lives. Take five minutes out of your day to write a list of 5 things you are grateful for. By giving yourself time to reflect, you can redirect your mental energy to promote positive thinking.
