Regular stretching is key to maintaining a balanced body and preventing a pain cycle from forming.
During these uncertain times, the monotony of working-at-home can make it difficult to maintain a routine that allows us to jumpstart our morning and start the day feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. By adding a few simple stretches to your morning, you can reclaim that vibrant energy to promote a productive, yet at-ease mindset.
Some benefits of regular stretching for the mind and body:
Reduced muscle soreness and tension
Greater energy levels
Lower back pain relief
Increase circulation and flexibility
Here are a couple tips to try out:
Take a seat on the floor with your legs extended straight out in front of you. Rest your hands on the floor behind you with your palms facing down. While keeping the heels of your feet on the ground, point your big toes and use them to guide your feet in a circular motion. Repeat three times while exhaling as you go, then reverse the direction of your circle and repeat. Not only will this help you promote circulation in the lower legs, but it will also ease out any tension in the calves hip, knees, and feet!
Sit on a chair and keep your back straight. Gently move your head downward and take a big, slow exhale. Lift your head back up then turn your gaze to the left, exhale, and back to center. Repeat on the other side. Do this two times on each side. Slowly lift your right shoulder, bring it forward, bring it back, then gently drop it to its resting position. Repeat the same thing with your left shoulder. Inhale and exhale as you do this. Repeat this sequence two times. This will help relieve your neck and shoulders from all the tension it carries. This is especially important if you spend a lot of time in front of the computer staring down at a desk!
